Privacy Policy
Last updated 21 September 2026. This describes exactly what SkyrimScape stores about you, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we store
| Data | Why | How it is stored |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address | It is how you sign in, how we reach you about your account, and how an administrator identifies it | As you typed it |
| Activation links: a random token for each link we email you | To activate a new account from the email we send | Until used, or for 24 hours; an account that is never activated is deleted after 48 hours with its address |
| Password-reset links: a random token for each link, and a hash of the address that asked for it | To let you choose a new password from the email we send | Until used, or for 1 hour |
| Your password | To sign you in | Hashed with argon2id. We cannot read it, and nobody here ever sees it |
| Account name, status and the times you created the account and last signed in | To run the account | As recorded |
| The IP address you registered from, and the IP address of each sign-in | To catch ban evasion and automated account creation | Hashed, not kept as an address |
| Your browser or launcher user agent, per session | So you can see and end your own sessions | As sent |
| Character names, and when each was made or retired | To run the game | As recorded |
| Game state: your character sheet, skills, inventory, gold, position, guild, and statistics such as kills and deaths | It is the game | As recorded |
| A connection log for each play session: which character, when you connected and disconnected, your client version, and your IP address | To investigate abuse and to debug faults | As an address, not hashed |
| Reports you send, reports about you, mutes and bans | Moderation | As recorded |
| Mail you send in game, including its text | To deliver it | Until the recipient collects it |
| Server log files, which include chat lines and IP addresses | To debug faults | Plain text on our servers |
Anything you send with /feedback, and the place in the world you were standing when you sent it | So we can find the thing you are describing | As you typed it |
| A crash report when your game crashes: the error code, the address it crashed at, and the list of code offsets | To find and fix the crash | As recorded. No memory dump and no file contents |
| A row of server counters every minute while anyone is playing: how many players, how long a tick took, how many attacks and deaths there have been | To find performance problems after someone reports one | Numbers only, about the server rather than about you |
Extra collection during the alpha
While SkyrimScape is in alpha testing, three things above exist specifically to make testing useful. They are listed with everything else rather than hidden in a separate document, and none of them collects anything we have not described.
- Feedback you choose to send.
/feedbackonly sends when you type it. Nothing is collected from your chat automatically. - Crash reports. When the game crashes, the client writes the error code and the code offsets to a file next to the game and sends that file the next time you connect, then deletes it. It contains no memory, no screenshots and no personal information. If you would rather it did not, delete
Data/SKSE/Plugins/SkyrimScape-lastcrash.txtbefore starting the game again. - Server performance counters. These describe the server, not you: tick times, totals of attacks and deaths, how many players were on. No row is written while the server is empty.
Voice chat
Voice is sent between players in real time and is not recorded and not stored anywhere.
Chat
Chat messages are not kept in our database. They do appear in server log files, along with the name of the character who sent them.
Cookies
This website sets two kinds of cookie, both strictly necessary and neither used for tracking:
- A session cookie, so you stay signed in on your account page.
- A cross-site request forgery token, so a form you submit cannot be forged by another site.
Both are HttpOnly, sent only over HTTPS, and limited to this site. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party cookies, which is why this site has no cookie banner.
The website also keeps one value in your browser's local storage: that you accepted the Terms of Service, and on which date. It is not sent to us. Clearing your browser's site data removes it, and the prompt appears again on your next visit.
We email you when you register, with the link that activates your account, and about your account when something needs your attention: a password reset you asked for, a moderation decision, or a change to the terms or to this policy. We may also send occasional news about SkyrimScape, such as patches, events and the state of the alpha. Every news email carries an unsubscribe link, and opting out of news has no effect on your account or on the account emails above.
Email is delivered through Resend (resend.com), a delivery service that receives your address and the message in order to send it. We do not sell or rent your address, and we do not send email on anyone else's behalf.
Who can see it
The administrators who run the servers. Beyond them, the one third party that handles personal data is the email delivery service named above, which receives your address for each email we send. We do not share personal data with anyone else, and we do not use any third-party analytics or advertising service.
Other players can see your character name, your guild, your title, your level, where you are in the world, and anything you type in chat or mail. That is the game working as intended.
Where it is held
On servers we run ourselves, in PostgreSQL databases and in log files. Backups are taken daily and held on the same machines.
How long we keep it
Account and game data is kept while your account exists. Connection logs, reports and moderation records are kept while they are useful for moderation. Server log files are kept until they are rotated away.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of your data, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, or to object to how it is used. We will honour those requests for any player who asks, wherever you live.
- A copy of your data: ask an administrator and we will export what we hold.
- Deletion: you can delete a character from the launcher yourself. Ask an administrator to delete your whole account, which removes your email, your password hash, your sessions and your characters. Moderation records of a banned account are kept, because deleting them would defeat the ban.
- Correction: ask an administrator.
Children
Skyrim is rated for adults in most countries. SkyrimScape is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly hold data about a child. If you believe we do, tell an administrator and we will delete it.
Security
Passwords are hashed with argon2id and never stored in a readable form. The website is served over HTTPS. Sign-in IP addresses are hashed rather than recorded. Access to the servers is limited to the administrators who run them.
We are a hobby project, not a security company. If you find a vulnerability, please tell an administrator rather than publishing it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top changes when we do.
Contact
Ask an administrator in the server chat. That is the only route we currently offer, and we answer requests about personal data through it.
